NEW ON NAXOS

Here is the May issue of NEW ON NAXOS. This month’s spotlight recording is an extraordinary collaboration by three of Naxos’ top artists – violinist Tianwa Yang, cellist Gabriel Schwabe and conductor Antoni Wit – in a recording of Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto and Double Concerto, with the Deutsches-Symphonie Orchester Berlin. Each of the three artists have deep association with Brahms: the Violin Concerto is a significant part of Tianwa Yang’s concert repertoire; Gabriel Schwabe’s debut album features the composer’s cello sonatas and songs; and Antoni Wit’s previous Brahms recordings were generally praised and highly acclaimed by critics and publications (‘Wit conducts with considerable insight and interpretative command’ – International Record Review on Ein Deutsches Requiem).

Other highlights include:

• GRAMMY®-nominated conductor Darrell Ang’s latest recording, leading the Malmö Symphony Orchestra in performances of Vincent d’Indy’s incidental music Médée and Karadec, and the symphonic poem Saugefleurie

• The world premiere recordings of Jonathan Leshnoff’s Symphony No. 4 ‘Heichalos’, Guitar Concerto and Starburst, performed by GRAMMY® Award-winning artists Jason Vieaux (guitar), the Nashville Symphony and conductor Giancarlo Guerrero. This new release also features the historic Violins of Hope, a collection of restored instruments that survived the Holocaust.

• Havergal Brian’s Symphonies Nos. 7 and 16, presented by the New Russia State Symphony Orchestra and conductor Alexander Walker, which includes the comic overture The Tinker’s Wedding.
